Typically you can add, edit and delete content by using your web browser. Once you have logged into the 'admin' section of your web site you can do all of the above by using a 'WYSIWYG' editor- very similar to using a desktop word processor such as Word.

Most content management systems you come across are built with the assumption that:

• The pages (or content) you create should be immediately viewable to the public
• The content is managed by one person
• You have no need to recall any previous versions of an item that has been edited

Of course, in reality you may have several people managing content in a more complex manner.

Take a online newspaper, for example:

The possible staff responsible for creating content may typically consist of journalists, creative writers, supervisors and editors. A small team of journalists may be contributing towards an article. They use their web browsers to directly upload information to the web site. Then a supervisor may need to view the article for proofreading. Once certified by the supervisor the editor-in-chief has a final look and publicises the article for visitors to see and admire.

We can also address the final problem in the bulleted list by providing a 'version control' system. This allows you to view previous edits, log changes that were made and by whom.
