Our project processes

Like all successful projects - the key is communication

Our creative and technical process is carried out in 4 key stages- Planning, Building, Review and Production.

We will take out some of the mystery from Web Development. You will need to communicate your ideas to us and we will check that we understood you. We can then map out a project plan while explaining any technicalities and jargon.

1. Planning

Chances are that you have a good idea what your requirements are for your web project. You may even have gone as far as to sketch out a few design ideas on paper. Don't worry if this isn't the case.

Our first meeting will allow us to map out the vision for your website. You may need to describe your existing business to us so we can better understand your online objectives. Following this we can start to sketch out designs and possible layouts for the site taking into consideration your existing brand identity. If you need help with this we can advise various look-and-feel elements to reflect the aesthetics of the market sector you wish to reach. The planning process tends to be a fairly fluid process where several designs can be explored, improved or scrapped. This is why pen and paper say it best- it's quick and easy to test out ideas. Creativity flows better with pen and paper!

After the planning meeting we draw up a website brief, technical specification list and projected completion date. Also we can finalise the cost for the project as a whole.

If our geographical locations don't allow a meeting in person, then we can discuss all matters over the phone, email or VOIP (Skype).

2. Building

The building of your site is broken down further into (what we tech-folk call) iterations. Iterations are minor changes to a particular area of the project that once completed allow for you to provide feedback on any adjustments you need. This iteration-based approach has proven to be an extremely agile method for building web sites and web applications. On the other hand, that is not to say we will be reliant on your input every step of the way. Quite often we work autonomously and present you with a batch of iterations for you to comment upon.

3. Review

The review process happens throughout the building of your site as per the iterations mentioned previously. Reviews are carried by ourselves against the brief to make sure we are on track and also you'll be consulted on any changes along the way. Naturally, the amount of input and commentary you give us depends on the level of technical detail your site has.

4. Production

After testing your site in several popular web browsers, your site will go live and be available to the world.

You may choose to opt for a level of support by Real Life Design to maintain the running of your website. Otherwise you may wish to have your staff trained in the new facilities on the site. Your after-build requirements will depend on the services you have installed. Be rest assured that we can support you in the smooth running of your site.

The production process is not just about making your web site public. More accurately, it's about ensuring that your new site works for you whether it's:
